Le Mont St Michel
One of France's most recognisable landmarks, Le Mont Saint Michel and its bay are part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites with more than 3 million people visiting it each year. A must see - only a 40 minute drive from Belle-Madeleine.
Parc de loisirs Ange Michel. The main feature is it's water park, but little ones will love the miniature train and the petting zoo. Various picnic areas throughout the park or visit the on-site restaurant. A great day out for the family. Just 20 minutes drive from Belle-Madeleine.
The American Cemetery near St. James covers 28 acres of rolling farm country contains the remains of 4,410 of American war dead, most of whom lost their lives in the Normandy and Brittany Campaigns of 1944. Along the retaining wall of the memorial terrace are inscribed the names of 498 of the missing. Rosettes mark the names of those since recovered and identified.
Carolles has a lovely sandy beach shadowed by cliffs offering a stunning view of the area including Le Mont St. Michel. There are a number of restaurants and the picturesque village of Carolles is situated on the cliffs.
A 45 minute drive from Belle-Madeleine
Just a little further along the coast you find find Jullouville beach which is just as lovely.
Only a 15 minute drive from Belle-Madeleine is the market town of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët. The photo above shows the church from the public gardens which also includes two lakes and play area; a great place for a picnic. A large market is held each Wednesday morning. The town has a cinema and indoor swimming pool / spa and a vast array of shops and restaurants to enjoy.
The waterfalls at Mortain are well worth a visit; so pretty and peaceful, a lovely walk.
Mortain has a range of shops, cafes and restaurants. In the summer enjoy a swim in the outdoor swimming pool. For the brave why not try Go-Karting! (see link)
Mortain is only 25 minutes drive from Belle Madeleine.
Fancy a trip to the zoo? Just a 30 minute drive away you'll find Zoo de Champrepus, home to Penguins, Lions, Giraffes ...
Or visit the Bell Foundry and Museum, take a walk around the pretty shops selling brass and copper items. On Tuesdays and Friday's you'll find a market in the main square.
Fougères' most famous monument and attraction is the medieval Château de Fougères. Quaint little houses and shops surround it, with a lovely courtyard of cafés, bars and restaurants near it's entrance.
